PROFESSIONAL ESSAY SUPPORT

Thomas Bender has taught high school English for six years, first at Mount St. Joseph Academy in Flourtown, PA, and currently at Notre Dame Prep in Towson, MD. Prior to his career as a teacher, he earned his B.A. in English with a Writing Concentration from Gettysburg College, an M.F.A. in Creative Writing (Fiction) from Temple University, and his M.Ed. in Secondary Education (English) from Chestnut Hill College. In addition to teaching, Thomas has been writing and editing for nearly a decade. He served as the Managing Editor of TINGE Magazine during his second year at Temple and also worked as an Editorial Assistant in 2014 and 2021. He recently completed a writing course with the Gotham Writers Workshop and How To Write Great Beginnings, offered through One Story. Over the past two summers, he has led College Essay Workshops for Notre Dame Prep and has helped guide rising seniors in developing, writing, revising, and editing their college essays as they prepare for the college application process.
